TRS-80®
Orchestra-85/90
STEREO MUSIC SYNTHESIZER
WITH PERCUSSION FOR MODELS 1, III AND 4 |
On this Page you will find information on the
emulation of the Orchestra 85/90 by my TRS-80 emulators. You will
also find the Orchestra 85/90 software and collections of music
files.
All virtual disks on this
page require at least version 4.00 of my emulator to run, except
where otherwise noted. All virtual disks on this page are in LDOS
format.
The information provided
below is for version 5.30 and above of my emulators.
The Orchestra 85/90 emulation has the
following features:
- Full support of all
- Orchestra-85
functions (Model 1)
- Orchestra-90
functions (Model III/4)
- Direct play of Orchestra
85/90 music through
- PC-Speaker (Mono)
- SoundBlaster Pro
& Compatibles (Mono)
- SoundBlaster
16/32/64 ISA (Stereo)
- Ability to record the
Orchestra 85/90's digital music data to an 8bit Wave file
- A compatible sound
card is not required to output Wave files
- Record in Mono or
Stereo
- The digital sample rate is
automatically calculated
- Ability to playback 8bit
Wave files
- SoundBlaster Pro
& Compatibles (5000 - 23000hz Mono or 5000 -
11500 Stereo)
- SoundBlaster
16/32/64 ISA (5000 - 44100hz Mono or Stereo)
Depending on the capabilities of your sound
card you can directly play and enjoy Orchestra 85/90 music almost
identical to that of a real TRS-80. You can also record your
Orchestra 85/90 music for playback in Windows (if your sound card
is not supported). The emulator records Orchestra 85/90 music to
a standard 8bit Wave file which will also allow you to edit the
digital music, compress the files into Mpeg or RealAudio format
or make collections of digital music for use with other Windows
programs.
To play music on the Model 1 emulator,
execute the ORCH85 program. When the program starts you will be
asked several questions.
- FAST CLOCK? (Y/N)
Answer: Y
- 2.6, 3.5, 4.0 MHZ? (2/3/4)
Answer: 4
- SOFTWARE CONTROL? (Y/N)
Answer: Y
- ENABLE CODE?
Answer: 3E01D3FE
- DISABLE CODE?
Answer: 3E00D3FE
- HOW MANY VOICES? (3/4/5)
You may answer either 3, 4 or 5 voices. You are not
required to select five voices. The fewer voices
selected, the less aliasing, the higher the resolution,
and the less memory required per music file. For best
results select the number matching the music files to be
played.
- SAVE PROGRAM? (Y/N)
The configured program is now in memory and is ready for
use. You can:
- Answer Y if you want to permanently set the
configuration to the previous entries. You will
be prompted to enter a PROGRAM NAME. Enter a file
name to be used to save the program. For example,
a three voice synthesizer based on a fast clock
might be named ORCH3F.
- Answer N if you don't want to save the
configured program. This will end the
configuration session.
- The Orchestra-85 program is ready to go.
To play music on the Model III/4
emulator, execute the ORCH90 program. When the program starts you
will be asked several questions.

required to select five voices. The fewer voices
selected, the less aliasing, the higher the resolution,
and the less memory required per music file. For best

Be sure to run the
emulator in Model 4 mode. If you don't you will be asked
additional questions similar to the ones asked by the
Orchestra-85 program.
Now that the program is loaded it's time to
play a music file. Type the command:
