TRS-80 Model III/4 Emulator Version 2.4 Addendum The following changes -- not documented in the manual -- have been made to the TRS-80 Model III/4 Emulator since Version 2.3: 1. SPEED CONTROL CHANGED The speed slider control is now gone. Instead there's option I in the F6 Options Menu which toggles the speed between that of the original Model III/4 ("original" setting) and the fastest speed the emulator can achieve on the host computer ("fastest" setting). Note: if running on a slow computer (e.g. 20MHz 386), "original" may not achieve the full speed of the original TRS-80. 2. WINDOWS 95 COMPATIBILITY IMPROVED Changes have been made which make the emulator run more smoothly within Windows 95. Previously, Windows 95 would give performance warnings when running the emulator, and the emulator would run more slowly than if run exclusively in DOS Note: if you want to run the emulator in a Window under Windows 95 rather than full-screen, set the Display Adapter option in the emulator's F6 Options Menu to "CGA" and then use ALT-ENTER to toggle between full screen and windowed modes. 3. NUMERIC KEYPAD AND ARROW KEYS MAY BE MAPPED INDEPENDENTLY The keyboard mapper has been modified so that the numeric keypad and the arrow keys now work independently. If you were using a custom keyboard layout on a previous version of the emulator, you should restore one of the default layouts. (To do this, go to the Custom Keyboard screen via CTRL-F5 and then hit F4 and select either the PC default by pressing "P" or the TRS-80 default by pressing "T".) 4. CURRENT DIRECTORY'S NAME SHOWN IN VIRTUAL DISK AND SNAPSHOT MENUS When viewing the Virtual Disk Menu or the Snapshot Menu, the current directory path is printed at the bottom of the screen. 5. UTILITIES INCLUDED TO ASSIST IN USING MODEMS WITH THE EMULATOR The PREPCOM1 and PREPCOM2 programs have been added to the installation disk. If you are planning on using a modem with the emulator, you may find that it is necessary to initialise the modem before use. If your modem is attached to COM1:, type PREPCOM1 at the DOS prompt prior to running the emulator. If your modem is attached to COM2:, type PREPCOM2 instead. 6. DIRECTORY SORT ORDER CHANGED The directory listing on the right of both the Virtual Disk Menu and the Snapshot Menu now lists subdirectories first, followed by files and then drive letters, rather than putting drive letters first. This is to accommodate Windows 95 which can present an unwieldy 26 drives ([A:] through [Z:]). Jeff Vavasour October 9, 2000
