No sixpences were minted in the years 1929 to 1933 so the 1934 coin was the first
one issued in the nineteen thirties. It occurs in two documented varieties distinguished
by the position and orientation of the numerals in the date. Both Dean1and
Clarke2 describe these as wide and narrow date varieties but this is
a simplification. Neither is scarce but the narrow date variety is probably the
more common one.
