Australian pennies dated 1957 were minted in Perth. Two varieties are known.
The scarcer variety is often described as "wide date" or "thin 7"
but the varieties are just manifestations of the master dies used for the reverse.
In other words all the "thin 7" coins were struck with reverse G whereas
the "thick 7" coins were struck with reverse I.

P57P.9G So-called "wide date" or "thin 7" variety. Scarce but not
rare. In 274 coins I found 9 of these. |
|
P57P.9I This is the more common of the two varieties. |
