FUNCTION KEYS ON KAYPROS, TOO by Sam Bellotto Jr., KUGOR, November 1987 (Some more ideas on how to reconfigure the Kaypro keypad.) KAYPRO COMPUTERS, unfortunately, do not come with a built-in "clear screen" command like most of the MS-DOS machines have. Of course, the exact same function can be easily accomplished simply by hitting a CTRL-Z. This involves a somewhat dexterous two- finger maneuver, however, and, if you are a fast typist, can break your rhythm. Utilizing the CONFIG.COM program which came bundled with the Kaypro, you can create a neat clear screen function key, as well as a couple of other handy button. CONFIG.COM, as you well know, allows one to reconfigure the calculator keypad to send any number of single-byte hex codes to the screen. One sample design: program the calculator pad's "0" key to fire that CTRL-Z, or 1A hex. Zero meaning nothing, clear, clear screen--neat mnemonics, huh? Also, if you like try making the ENTER key a CTRL-C, or 03 hex, warm boot. Very useful. Finally, the calculator comma can be turned into a sensible CTRL-M, 0D hex, which is a carriage return. CONFIG.COM lets you reconfigure all the calculator keys and the arrow keys as well.
